Q:
How to replace the condenser with a new unit? Posted by Customer
A:
To replace the condenser with a new unit, it is necessary to add 1.4 to 1.7 fluid ounces of compressor oil to the system. The process involves having the refrigerant discharged by an air conditioning technician, removing the front bumper cover and radiator grille, disconnecting the oil cooler hoses (if applicable), removing the fan shroud, cooling fan, and radiator, disconnecting the condenser fan electrical connectors (on Sequoia models), disconnecting the A/C pressure switch electrical connector and the line from the condenser and discharge hose, removing the condenser mounting bolts, and lifting out the condenser. If the vehicle has air cooled transmission oil coolers, the condenser should be pushed towards the engine before lifting it out. The new condenser should be installed with brackets (if removed) and bolts, ensuring that the rubber cushions fit properly on the mounting points. The refrigerant lines should be reconnected using new O-rings where necessary, and if a new condenser has been installed, approximately 1.4 to 1.7 ounces (50 cc) of new refrigerant oil of the correct type (R-134a) should be added. Finally, the remaining parts should be reinstalled in the reverse order of removal, and the system should be evacuated, charged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
