    Q:
How to remove and install the airbag module and steering wheel on Toyota Corolla? Posted by Customer
    A:
To evacuate any airbag module, first spark the key then pull the connection wire from the battery's negative terminal for over 2 minutes. Next, pull the steering wheel so that the wheels are lined up and slightly release the Torx screws that fix the airbag to the steering wheel, while turning it until the airbag is released but the screws remain in the screw case. Slowly remove the airbag module from the steering wheel and remove the electrical connectors by lifting the clips using a small screwdriver, and then place the module in another area. If so provided, disconnect the electrical connector for the cruise control. Pop the steering shaft into place and loosen/Remove the steering wheel nut. To remove the steering wheel, use a puller to remove a nut that joins the steering wheel to the shaft; do not hammer or turn the steering shaft because this will knock the center of the airbag spiral cable. If still needed, to disconnect the airbag spiral cable, unplug the electrical connector and sever it from the combination switch. For installation, make sure the front wheels are straight and then press the lock tab of the spiral cable, now turn the Cable in anti-clockwise direction until you get to the inside marking and then turn the cable clockwise about 2 turns ½ until the pointers match. Put the mark on the hub of steering wheel on the other mark on the shaft, fit the wheel on the shaft, and then tighten the nut of the wheel to stipulated torque. Connect the cruise control connector back in and the electric connectors for the airbag module ensuring the locking tab is down. Last of all, ensure that the electrical connector of the air bag module is well positioned and that the wires are not pinched before snapping the module into its proper place and tightening the retaining screws; reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

    Q:
How to remove and install the airbag module and steering wheel on Toyota Matrix? Posted by Customer
    A:
To disinstall the airbag module, turn the ignition key off , with the wheels facing forward and unplug from the battery negative terminal for more than two minutes. Remove the Torx screws that are attached to the air bag module on the steering wheel until it is loose but not enough to detach it from the case. Take out the airbag module from the steering wheel, remove the electric connectors where the locks can be unlocked by the use of a small screwdriver and place the module where it will not cause any risk. If so fitted, remove the cruise control electrical connector and lower steering column shroud if the removal of the floor console is going to be done. Loosen the steering wheel, mark the position of the steering shaft to the hub so that it could be easily fixed to maintain proper alignment, you now remove the nut that holds the steering wheel. There then can be used a puller to separate the steering wheel with the help of it from the shaft if it is needed. In case the airbag spiral cable should be disconnected, then disconnect the electrical connector and separate it from the combination switch. To install, make sure that the front wheels are aligned as indicated by the dotted lines, press the lock tab of the spiral cable present at the back of the power switch located at the lower right hand part of the product unit, rotate the cable and release the lock tab at the same time in counter clockwise direction until the pointers of the power switch are aligned, rotate it further in clockwise direction for additional 2 ½ turns. Adjust the position of the mark on the steering wheel hub to that on the shaf, then put the wheel on the shaft and lastly, tighten the nut. Insert the cruise control connector and the electrical connectors to airbag module and lock down the tab by pressing it. Finally, ensure that the clips of the electrical connectors of the airbag module are properly engaged before putting the module back in place, twisting the retainers until they are tight and re-connecting the negative terminal of the battery.
