Ensure the throttle cable bracket is not bent or loose before making this adjustment, and confirm that the rubber boot is properly seated on the adjuster. Press the accelerator pedal fully to the floor, ensuring the throttle cable in the throttle body is completely open; check and adjust if necessary. Measure the distance the stopper or painted mark on the cable extends from the boot, aiming for a clearance of 1.0 mm between the end of the rubber boot and the stopper, adjusting as needed to achieve the proper length. If the boot-to-stopper clearance is not as specified, loosen and back off the outer adjusting nut, then turn the inner adjusting nut to move the cable housing as required to achieve the specified clearance, ensuring to tighten the outer nut to lock the housing in position.

On 1979 through 1986 models there is no Accelerator cable; the accelerator pedal is connected to a bell crank with one rod while the other connects the bell crank either at the firewall or the valve cover to the throttle body. To retract one of the rods, unlock it from its clips, but do not release the locknuts, or turn the adjustment nuts on the end of either rod to adjust the idle, as this would tamper with the setting. 1987 and later models utilize an accelerator cable that joins the accelerator pedal to a lever which is situated on the top of the valve cover, this lever is connected to the throttle by means of a metal bar. To remove the accelerator cable, there is a locknut and an adjustment nut which must be loosened so that we can make a separation of the cable from its hanger bracket; the cable end must be pried off the bell crank lever arm. The connection between the rod and the throttle linkage can be disconnected when the latter is pried from the retaining clip. To free the accelerator cable from the bellcrank, you need to remove the locknut as well as the adjustment nut at the part of the body where the cable is connected to the bracket, and slide the cable end off the lever of the bellcrank. Following the throttle cable towards the firewall after removing all the connections from the throttle and if it is fixed with mounting bolts then remove them from the inside of the car. Remove the accelerator cable by disconnecting it from the accelerator pedal; then, take the other end of the cable through the firewall from the interior of the car. Each one follows the order that is opposite to the other; installation is process done in the reverse order of removal.
