Pull the negative battery cable before working on the vehicle. Carefully remove the center trim panel. Take out the hazard light switch from between the A/C/Heater registers by pushing it outwards while pressing the tabs. Installation is the opposite of removing. Take out the knee bolster piece from the instrument panel plus the right-side trim panel on the driver's side. First, unplug the electrical cable. On the back of the unit, easily take out the mounting fasteners, and reverse these steps to put everything in place. The defogger and A/C switches are connected and must be replaced together. To remove the instrument panel illumination rheostat switch, first take off the driver's side trim panel. Very carefully pry the switch from the panel by placing tape on the screwdriver tip to guard against scratching. Take off the electrical wire connection, then take out the switch. You put it back on the same way you took it off. When accessing power outlets from the center console, you first need to carefully slip the power outlet switch base free. On vehicles with seat heating, you must pry up the heater control before you can get to the power sources. Push the outlet through a panel opening where small metal bars keep wires secure, following the same steps in reverse order to reattach it. If you have smart key models, start by taking off the panel on the driver's side, detach the engine switch wire harness connectors, slide back the two clips, and pull the switch out from the control assembly, with reversal when putting everything back.
