    Q:
How do you remove and install a crankshaft pulley and oil seal on Toyota Prius? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the crankshaft pulley and note how the seal is installed, ensuring the new one is positioned to the same depth and orientation. Carefully pry the oil seal out of the cover using a seal puller or a large screwdriver, taking care not to damage the crankshaft. To facilitate removal, cut the lip of the seal with a utility knife, being cautious not to distort the cover or scratch the crankshaft; wrapping electrician's tape around the screwdriver tip can help prevent damage. Apply clean engine oil or multi-purpose grease to the outer edge of the new seal and install it in the cover with the lip facing inward. Drive the seal into place using a seal driver or a large socket and hammer, ensuring it enters the bore squarely and stops at the correct depth. Check the surface on the pulley hub for any grooves caused by long-term contact with the seal, and replace the pulley if necessary. Lubricate the pulley hub with clean engine oil and reinstall the crankshaft pulley, then install and tighten the retaining bolt. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal.

    Q:
How to remove and replace the crankshaft pulley and rear main oil seal on Toyota Yaris? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the crankshaft pulley. Screw a self-tapping screw into the face of the old Crankshaft Seal and using a pair of long-nosed-pliers and a piece of a timber to lever against, lever the old seal from the timing cover. Fitting a self-tapping screw helps to pull the old seal out. Lightly lubricate the seal with oil or grease, and position it over the crankshaft. Work equally round the seal, tapping it squarely into the carrier until it is flush with the edge. Install the crankshaft pulley. Remove the flywheel or driveplate. Using the same method, remove the rear main seal. Lightly lubricate the seal with oil or grease, and position it over the crankshaft. Work equally round the seal, tapping it squarely into the carrier until it is flush with the edge. If a tube of the same diameter as the seal is available, this will help to ensure the seal is pressed squarely into place. Otherwise, the seal should be pressed in evenly using a blunt instrument. Work equally round the seal, tapping it squarely into place until it is fitted to the same depth as the old one. Refit the flywheel or driveplate.
