    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and install a strut assembly on Toyota Corolla? Posted by Customer
    A:
To carry out the operation of removing the strut assembly, well loosen the wheel lug nuts, then lift the vehicle and place it on well-cemented jackstands then finally remove the wheel. After that, remove the brake hose bracket loose screw from the strut and for seped sensor wire harness, remove the clamp bracket bolt if the vehicle is equipped with ABS. Locate the strut in relation to the steering knuckle and the positions of the bolts since special camber adjusting bolts may have been used. Lift off the strut-to-knuckle nuts, then knock out the bolts using the help of a hammer and punch. Now gently pull the strut to free it from the steering knuckle and do not over flex the inner CV joint or allow the steering knuckle to fall to the outside this position will stress the brake hose. Support the strut and spring assembly, preferably with help, and take off the three strut-to-body nuts that will disconnect the upper portion of the strut assembly from the body framework and then withdraw the assembly from the fenderwell. Look out for signs of leakage of fluid and also signs of denting, cracking or any other signs of damage that may necessitate replacement on the strut body, and in the coil spring part there should be no chipping on the coating or any splits on the spring seat as well as checks should be made on cuts and general wearing out. If such areas are discovered, go to the next step of removing the strut. For installation, position the strut assembly into the fenderwell and thread the upper mounting studs through the body holes; tighten the nuts to hold the strut in position to not fall. Place the steering knuckle under the strut flange, put in two bolts through the knuckle and tighten to the said torque, with match mark alignment done earlier. Secure the brake hose bracket to the strut and fasten with a bolt and tighten, and if the car has ABS then fit the speed sensor wiring harness bracket. Last but not least, fix the wheel and lugs nuts and lower the car, tighten the lugs nuts in the recommended torque, and also should tighten the upper mounting nuts in the correct torque. Proceed to drive the vehicle to your preferred alignment shop and get your front end alignment done if not well aligned.
