Check the throttle linkage and remove the air intake duct from the throttle body. Don't clean the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) or Idle Air Control (IAC) valve with solvent. Disconnect the battery's negative terminal, remove the air intake duct, and disconnect the throttle body's connector. Label and detach all hoses from the throttle body, plugging the coolant ones. On V6 models, disconnect the TPS's connector. Remove the throttle body and gasket. Reinstall in reverse order, using a new gasket.

To ensure smooth operation, check the throttle linkage on 1999 through 2003 models. If the air intake duct on the throttle body is dirty, remove it and clean it using aerosol carburetor cleaner and a toothbrush, making sure the cleaner is safe for oxygen sensor systems and catalytic converters. However, avoid cleaning the Throttle Position (TP) sensor or the Idle Speed Control (ISC) valve with the solvent. For the removal and installation process, disconnect the negative battery terminal cable, remove the air intake duct, disconnect the electrical connectors from the Throttle Position (TP) sensor and Idle Speed Control (ISC) valve, disconnect the cruise control cable, accelerator cable, brake booster vacuum hose, and vacuum hoses from the throttle body. Clamp off and plug the coolant hoses to minimize coolant loss, then remove the throttle body mounting bolts or nuts and discard the old throttle body gasket. For 2004 and later models, follow similar steps but also remove the strut brace, engine cover, windshield wiper arms and motor, side seals, and plastic cowl if applicable. Disconnect the electrical connector and disengage the electrical harness from the clip on the fuel pipe bracket, disengage the fuel hose, and disconnect the vacuum and coolant hoses from the throttle body. Remove the throttle body mounting bolts and discard the old gasket, then install the new gasket and tighten the throttle body mounting bolts. Finally, check the coolant level and add as necessary.

Verify that the throttle linkage operates smoothly. Remove the air intake duct from the throttle body and check for carbon and residue build-up; if dirty, clean it with aerosol carburetor cleaner that is safe for oxygen sensor systems and catalytic converters, using a toothbrush. With the engine off, clean the throttle body, ensuring to open the throttle plate for access. For 2006 and earlier models, after the engine cools, slowly remove the cooling system pressure cap to ensure no pressure remains. Remove the V-bank cover cap nuts and the V-bank cover, then take out the intake duct and resonator. Disconnect the accelerator cable and the Throttle Valve cable, then remove the bolt securing the throttle body to the bracket and disconnect the electrical connectors from the throttle position sensor and idle air control valve. Detach any wire harness clamps, clamp off, and disconnect the coolant bypass hoses, air assist hose, fuel vapor feed hose, and vacuum hoses from the throttle body. For 2000 and earlier models and 2004 through 2006 models, remove the nuts and bolts securing the throttle body to the intake plenum; for 2001 and later models, remove the screws securing each throttle body. Installation is the reverse of removal, using new gaskets and tightening the retaining nuts/bolts while checking the coolant level. For 2007 and later models, remove the windshield wiper motor and cowl assembly for access, then take off the engine cover and both air inlet hoses. Disconnect the hoses and remove the air filter housing. Ensure the engine is cool, drain sufficient engine coolant, disconnect the coolant hoses from the throttle body, and plug them. Disconnect the electrical connector and its clamp from the throttle body, then remove the four mounting bolts and lift off the throttle body, discarding any hardened or damaged O-ring seal. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to align the O-ring tab with the slot in the intake manifold and tightening the bolts.

After installation, check the coolant level and add more if necessary to bring it to the appropriate level.
