A new or rebuilt master cylinder should be bench bled before installation. To do this, mount the master cylinder in a vise and insert threaded plugs into the brake line outlet holes. Fill the reservoir with brake fluid and push the piston assembly into the master cylinder bore to expel air. Repeat the procedure until only brake fluid is expelled from the brake line outlet holes. Alternatively, you can use your finger to cover the hole and prevent air from being drawn back into the master cylinder.
