    Q:
How to remove and install a cylinder head in V6 engine on Toyota Sequoia? Posted by Customer
    A:
This procedure applies to either cylinder head. Based on the information above, procedure 7 can be concluded as: Start by placing the engine on TDC compression for cylinder number one and also originating the cable from the negative terminal of the vehicle battery. Sump the engine oil and the coolant, then and finally unbolt the engine side valve cover and the air cleaner housing. Next, remove the upper intake manifold or valve covers if they are removable for access on the engine. Remove the fuel supply and return hoses coming from the fuel rail, then unbolt the lower intake manifold and fuel rail together. Find a patch of the coolant passage on the back side of the engine, identify the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor and disjoin it and, finally remove the heater hose from the outlet of the coolant passage. In this case, remove the bolts and nuts fastening the coolant passage, he added that the old gaskets and O-ring should be discarded. Remove and dis-connect the front exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Continue with the extraction of the timing chain together with the camshaft timing oil control valve, the oil control valve filter and the WT-i sensor and last but not the least are the camshafts. When you wish to uninstall the left cylinder head, you should first loosen the two front bolts in sequences and then uniformly and gradually loosen the cylinder head bolts in the reverse order of how they were tightened and then unstalled the cylinder head for the engine block. Remove the old cylinder head gasket, and apply the above steps for the other cylinder head if required. When installing, the mated surfaces of the cylinder heads and the block must be clean so use a gasket scraper and brake system cleaner. Look and make sure that there are no damages on the mating surfaces of each part before moving to the next step. Carry the thread in the cylinder head bolt holes with the hand and wipe them with compressed air. Clean the cylinder head bolts and measure their diameter; it is recommended to change them if they are smaller than the defined minimum measure. Cover a thin layer of RTV sealant over the new cylinder head gasket, and it is advisable to fit the cylinder head without 3 minutes and / or torque the bolts within fifteen minutes. Put the gasket on the proper position on the engine block and put the cylinder head on top of it. The cylinder head bolts should be lightly oiled; install and tighten these bolts in the proper sequence and per the initial torque, then make a mark on the bolt heads and thereafter, tighten these bolts an additional 180 degrees. If installing, the left cylinder head, torque the two front head bolts. Replace the other cylinder head if they both were taken off, then the intake and exhaust camshafts, camshaft timing oil control valve, oil control valve filter, and WT-i sensor. Bolt in all the timing chains, timing chain cover, and every element that is incorporated with the cover. Perform the reversal of the removal process, add oil, and coolant to the engine, reconnect the battery cable, start the engine and check for leaks.
