To have the cylinder head unbolted successfully, firstly release the fuel rail pressure together with the connection of the lead on the battery's negative terminal and drain the cooling system as well. Subsequently, unscrew the alternator, the valve cover, the throttle body, the fuel injectors, fuel rail, intake manifold and exhaust manifold, but before you take off the exhaust manifold, do not forget to disconnect the oxygen sensor. Continue with the removal of the timing chain, camshaft sprockets, camshafts, and lifters along with the variable valve timing control valve and filter. Remove and labeling the coolant hoses, tubes, and connections clamps to the cylinder head, and relive the cylinder head bolts in 1/4 turn interval in an opposite sequence for the tightening to prevent warping. Carefully raise the cylinder head off the engine block and, if required, begin prying off any more of the exterior parts so as to clean them and to inspect them more easily. To install the cylinder head on the engine block, make sure that the surfaces of both components are clean free of debris, using the gasket scraper and solvent. Inspect the faces of the components that are to be married for damage, and use a tap and compressed air to remove any debris from the cylinder head bolt holes. This means that for all the bolts, the head threads must be cleaned and investigated for stretching where by any bolt thread that has been stretched to a length of more than 5.846 inches must be replaced. Place back those components which were removed from the cylinder head, ensure the gasket is properly aligned and gently secure the cylinder head on the block. Lubricate the threads and under the bolt heads with clean engine oil before putting in the bolts and tightening the bolts in the mentioned locations and pattern. The last procedures include the process of reversing the removal procedures accomplished, inspection of the valves for any signs of jamming or sticking and calibrating them if necessary, oil and oil filter change, refilling the cooling system, starting the engine and inspection for any sign of leakage.
