To check the line source power voltage, use a voltmeter by connecting the positive probe to the ignition coil positive terminal and the negative probe to ground, ensuring approximately 12 volts is indicated when the ignition switch is turned to On. If the voltage is not present, troubleshoot the igniter circuit. For the igniter power transistor, connect the positive probe of the voltmeter to the ignition coil negative terminal and the negative probe to ground, again expecting around 12 volts; if not, replace the igniter. To further test, unplug the ignition coil wiring connector from the distributor and connect a 3 to 5-volt dry cell battery to the pink and white wire terminals, taking care not to exceed 5 volts or apply voltage for more than five seconds to avoid damage. Then, check the voltage at the ignition coil negative terminal, which should read 7 to 10 volts; if it does not, replace the igniter. For replacement, remove the coil protector, the coil primary terminal nuts and wires, unplug the two large green connectors to the igniter, and take out the two igniter mounting screws before removing the igniter. Installation follows the reverse order of removal.
