Toyota 23101-31100 Fuel Pump Sub-Assembly

Depress the release tab and pull up.

After relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the battery, the intake manifold should be removed and the electrical connector from the high-pressure fuel pump should be disconnected.

You can verify if the fuel pump is running by having an assistant turn the ignition switch to ON and listening for a whirring noise indicating the pump is pressurizing the system.

For 2007 RX 350 and all 2008 and later models, the components of the fuel pump assembly are modular and attached to the main housing. To remove the fuel level sending unit, disconnect the electrical connector and pry it from the clips. To remove the fuel pump, disconnect the electrical connector from the mounting flange, remove the spring E-clip, release the claw connectors from the sub-tank, separate the fuel suction support base, release the claw connectors and separate the fuel pump assembly, disconnect and remove the fuel pump electrical harness, and pull the fuel pump up and out from the filter assembly. Remove the O-ring and spacer from the fuel pump, and inspect the strainer for contamination.
