Clean the bore in the housing and coat the outer edge of the new seal with engine oil or multi-purpose grease. Apply moly-base grease to the seal lip.

Slowly and carefully push the seal onto the crankshaft. Work the seal lip onto the crankshaft with a smooth object, such as the end of an extension, as you push the retainer against the block.

The old seal can be removed from the retainer by driving it out from the back side with a hammer and punch after removing the retainer from the block. It should be supported on a couple of wood blocks, and the old seal can be driven out with a punch or screwdriver and hammer. It's important to note how far the old seal is recessed into the bore before removing it, as the new seal will need to be recessed an equal amount. Care should be taken not to scratch or damage the bore in the retainer to avoid oil leaks.

The stiff lip of the seal can be easily damaged during installation.

Thoroughly clean it with a shop towel, removing all traces of oil and dirt.

Carefully pry the oil seal out of the cover with a seal puller or a large screwdriver. Be very careful not to distort the cover or scratch the crankshaft! Wrap electrician's tape around the tip of the screwdriver to avoid damage to the crankshaft.

The new seal should be placed in the retainer and the retainer should be bolted to the block.

Carefully pry it out with a screwdriver or seal removal tool.

Reinstall the camshaft sprocket(s) and timing belt. Run the engine and check for oil leaks at the camshaft seal.

Reinstall the crankshaft timing sprocket and timing belt, being careful not to scratch the crankshaft sensor portion. Run the engine and check for oil leaks at the front seal.
