    Q:
How do you replace the camshaft seal on 1996 through 2002 Toyota 4Runner? Posted by Customer
    A:
Pull off the timing belt and the sprocket of camshaft if available. Remove the bolts of the rear (No. 3) timing belt cover. Position yourself to where your eyes are looking at the centre of the bore alongside the seal, then try to pull the seal out as far away from the bore as you can see it, using a straight slot head screwdriver while be careful not to slip and scratch the bore or damage the camshaft hence causing the new seal to leak. Scrub the bore and coat the peripheral surface of the new seal with engine oil or multipurpose grease and smear the seal lip with multipurpose grease. Before replacing the seal, insert a socket having an outside diameter slightly less than the diameter of the seal into the seat of the seal with care and then drive the new seal into the place with a hammer until it is flush with the pipe and square with the socket if pipe is not available a short section of pipe can also be used. Retake the rear timing belt cover and fasten the bolts; then, replace the camshaft sprocket the single and timing belt. Lastly, start the engine and examine the region where the camshaft seal is situated for seepage of oil.

    Q:
How do you install the new seal for the 1993 Toyota T100? Posted by Customer
    A:
Using a socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the seal, carefully drive the new seal into place with a hammer. Make sure it's installed squarely and driven in to the same depth as the original. If a socket isn't available, a short section of pipe will also work (lubricate the seal lip and tap the new camshaft seal into place with a large socket or piece of pipe and a hammer).
