    Q:
How can broken valve springs and defective valve stem seals be replaced without removing the cylinder heads on Toyota Land Cruiser? Posted by Customer
    A:
Valve springs and valve stem seals can be exchanged without removal of the cylinder heads, generally this work needs three slender tools and a pressurized air supply. Failing that, a length of nylon rope must be used to prevent the valves from falling into the cylinder. Start by pulling off the valve cover and the spark plug of the cylinder in question or all spark plugs, if replacing all the valve stem seals. When the crankshaft is turned until the piston of the concerned cylinder is positioned at the top dead center in the compression stroke, and if replacing all the seals one starts with cylinder zero followed by cylinder number one in the firing sequence. Insert an adapter into the spark plug hole, and then attach an air hose to a tank of compressed air. Get rid of the rocker arm and pivot of the bad valve and utilizing the green air on the cylinder push the piston to its right position since any movement on it will harm. In the case of the nylon rope, place the piston prior to TDC, put the combustion chamber full of rope and turn the crankshaft until there is some opposition. Closely pack shop rags into the cylinder head holes to avoid dropping debris, next, you have to compress a valve spring by using of the spring compressor and then remove the keepers. When air pressure is inadequate to retain the valve shut there is valve face or seat grinding requiring the cylinder head's withdrawal. Secure the valve stem with a piece of rubber band or tape then check for dents and bent and also rotates the valve stem within the guide comfortably. Apply air pressure to keep the valve shut, and apply grease on the valve stem, also fit a new guide seal into the valve body. Put the spring and the shield back above the valve, and place the spring retainer in its proper place, compress the spring and you put the keepers into place with grease to hold them down. Take off load off the spring tool, disconnect the air hose and then take off adapter. Last of all, bolt down the rocker arms and pushrods, spark plugs first, and the valve cover last; turn on the engine and examine for its oil leakage and strange noises.
