The headlight switch and rheostat are located in the left pod of the instrument cluster finish panel. To check the switch or rheostat, first disconnect the instrument cluster finish panel from the dash panel and pull it out to access the electrical connector. Disconnect the headlight switch electrical connector, then remove the large locknut by pulling the knob straight off and using a six-point, deep socket to take off the switch housing from the cluster finish panel. To check the light control switch, use an ohmmeter to verify continuity between terminals; if continuity is not as specified, replace the switch. For the light control rheostat, measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 9 while gradually changing the brightness from maximum to minimum, ensuring the resistance increases from 0 to 4.5 ohms; if it does not, replace the switch. Installation follows the reverse order of removal.

To check it, remove the relay and connect the positive lead from the battery to terminal 3. Connect the negative lead to terminal 2. Then, connect a 55W bulb between terminals 1 and 2 and verify that the bulb flashes on and off. If the flasher relay does not perform as described, replace it.
