The crankshaft front oil seal can be replace while the timing gear cover is still in position but due to limited space it is easier to remove it first. When the sealing face of the seal has reached the desired position drive it into this position fully with the help of a socket or pipe of the diameter of the seal or apply wooden block. Last of all,amazingly,replace the timing gear cover.
