Remove the crankshaft pulley and note how the seal is installed, ensuring the new one is positioned to the same depth and orientation. Carefully pry the oil seal out of the cover using a seal puller or a large screwdriver, taking care not to damage the crankshaft or distort the cover. To prevent damage, wrap electrician's tape around the screwdriver tip. Apply clean engine oil or multi-purpose grease to the outer edge of the new seal and install it in the cover with the lip facing inward. Drive the seal into place using a seal driver or a large socket and hammer, ensuring it enters the bore squarely and stops at the correct depth. Check the pulley hub surface for grooves caused by long-term contact with the seal; if damaged, replace the pulley. Lubricate the pulley hub with clean engine oil and reinstall the crankshaft pulley. Finally, install and tighten the crankshaft pulley retaining bolt, completing the installation in reverse order of removal.

The first step is to remove the engine/transmission assembly from the vehicle.

Install the flywheel or driveplate.

Wrap tape around the tip of the screwdriver to avoid scratching the housing bore or damaging the crankshaft, as this could cause the new seal to leak.

The remainder of the installation is the reverse of the removal process.

Lubricate the outside diameter of the seal and install the seal over the end of the crankshaft, making sure the lip of the seal points toward the engine.

Run the engine and check for oil leaks at the front seal.

The new seal should be evenly driven into the container using a wood block or a section of pipe slightly smaller in diameter than the outside diameter of the seal.

Install the new seal in the cover with the lip (spring side) facing IN. Drive the seal into place with a seal driver or a large socket and a hammer, ensuring it enters the bore squarely and stops when the front face is at the proper depth.

Carefully pry the seal out of the timing chain cover with a screwdriver or seal removal tool, being careful not to scratch the crankshaft. If using a screwdriver, wrap tape around the tip to avoid scratching the housing bore or damaging the crankshaft, as damage to the crankshaft can lead to leaks with the new seal.

The new seal can be driven into place using a seal driver or a large socket and a hammer. It is important to ensure that the seal enters the bore squarely and stops when the front face is at the proper depth.

Install the transaxle to the engine.

Remove the bolts and detach the rear timing belt cover.

The first step is to remove the engine/transmission assembly from the vehicle, then remove the transaxle from the engine. After that, remove the driveplate.

Pry the oil seal from the rear of the engine with a screwdriver, being careful not to nick or scratch the crankshaft or the seal bore. Note how far it's recessed into the bore before removal so the new seal can be installed to the same depth. Thoroughly clean the seal bore in the block with a shop towel, removing all traces of oil and dirt.
