First of all, remove the crankshaft pulley and pry out the seal from the timing chain cover, ensuring not scratch the crankshaft. Clean the bore in the cover and apply oil or grease to the new seal. Use a seal driver or socket to drive the new Crankshaft Seal into place with a hammer. Check the seal's spring hasn't dislodged.

Remove the crankshaft pulley and note how the seal is installed, ensuring the new one is positioned to the same depth and orientation. Carefully pry the oil seal out of the cover using a seal puller or a large screwdriver, taking care not to damage the crankshaft or distort the cover. Apply clean engine oil or multi-purpose grease to the outer edge of the new seal, then install it in the cover with the lip facing inward. Drive the seal into place using a seal driver or a large socket and hammer, ensuring it enters the bore squarely and stops at the proper depth. Check the surface on the pulley hub for any grooves caused by long-term contact with the seal; if present, replace the pulley. Lubricate the pulley hub with clean engine oil and reinstall the crankshaft pulley, then install and tighten the retaining bolt. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal.

Lubricate the outside diameter of the seal and install the seal over the end of the crankshaft, making sure the lip of the seal points toward the engine.

The pulley hub should be lubricated with clean engine oil before reinstalling the crankshaft pulley.

After cutting the lip off, a screwdriver wrapped in tape can be used to pry the seal out.

Remove the transaxle.

The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal.

Using a seal driver or a socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the seal, carefully drive the new seal into place with a hammer. Ensure that the seal lip is lubricated and that the seal is installed squarely and driven in flush with the surface of the timing chain cover. After installation, check the seal to make sure the spring didn't pop out of place.

Clean the bore and coat the outer edge of the new seal with engine oil or multi-purpose grease. Apply multi-purpose grease to the seal lip.

Lubricate the outside diameter of the seal and install the seal over the end of the crankshaft, ensuring the lip of the seal points toward the engine. Preferably, use a seal installation tool to press the new seal back into place. If the tool is unavailable, use a large socket, section of pipe, or a blunt tool to carefully drive the new seal squarely into the seal bore and flush with the edge of the engine block.

Thoroughly clean the seal bore in the block with a shop towel, removing all traces of oil and dirt.

The crankshaft seal journal and the lip of the new seal should be lubricated with multi-purpose grease.

Remove the crankshaft pulley.

Remove the crankshaft pulley.

Lubricate the outside diameter of the seal and, using a seal installation tool, install the seal over the end of the crankshaft. Drive the new seal squarely into the seal bore and flush with the edge of the seal retainer.

Reinstall the crankshaft timing sprocket and timing belt, being careful not to scratch the crankshaft sensor portion of the sprocket. Run the engine and check for oil leaks at the front seal.

Lubricate the outside diameter of the seal.

Apply clean engine oil or multi-purpose grease to the outer edge of the new seal, then install it in the cover with the lip (spring side) facing in.
