Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Set the parking brake and block the rear wheels. Raise the front of the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands. Remove the two plastic splash shields under the engine, if equipped. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter. Remove the oil dipstick. Remove the bolts and detach the oil pan. If it's stuck, pry it loose very carefully with a small screwdriver or putty knife. Do not damage the mating surfaces of the pan and block or oil leaks could develop. Use a scraper to remove all traces of old sealant from the block and oil pan. Clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone. Make sure the threaded bolt holes in the block are clean. Check the oil pan flange for distortion, particularly around the bolt holes. Remove any nicks or burrs as necessary. Inspect the oil pump pick-up tube assembly for cracks and a blocked strainer. If the pick-up was removed, clean it thoroughly and install it now, using a new gasket. Tighten the nuts/bolts. Apply a 3/16-inch wide bead of RTV sealant to the mating surface of the oil pan, following the groove but going to the inside where the bolt holes are located. Carefully position the oil pan on the engine block and install the oil pan-to-engine block bolts loosely. Working from the center out, tighten the oil pan-to-engine block bolts. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to follow the sealant manufacturer's recommendations for assembly and sealant curing times. Run the engine and check for oil pressure and leaks.

Apply RTV sealant to the upper oil pan flange and position the pan onto the block, tightening the fasteners in several steps.

To inspect and install the oil pump pick-up tube:Thoroughly inspect the oil pump pick-up tube for cracks and a blocked strainer.If removed, clean the pick-up tube and install it with a new gasket.Tighten the nuts and bolts to the specified torque.

To drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter:Drain the engine oil.Remove the oil filter.Remove the oil dipstick.

Remove the two bolts holding the aluminum oil pan section to the transaxle.

Apply a bead of RTV sealant to the flange of oil pan No. 2, carefully position it on the upper oil pan, and install the bolts, working from the center out and tightening them to the specified torque.

The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal. Add oil, install a new filter, run the engine, and check for leaks.

Complete the remaining installation steps in reverse order, including adding new oil and a new oil filter. It's crucial to wait for the sealant to set to ensure a proper seal and prevent oil leaks.

Working from the center out, tighten the oil pan-to-engine block bolts.

Disconnect the front exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter, the two bolts and the support bracket, and the nuts holding the pipe to the front and rear exhaust manifolds.

Install the baffle plate if you removed it and tighten the fasteners.
